The students in our school have a heart and desire to learn, but many have stressful home situations which can negatively impact the learning environment. Our town has very few resources to help our students; teachers often fund resources ourselves to provide for our students.
Our students need experiences that they are not given at home in order to break the cycle of poverty and give them opportunities for productive futures.
Students' home lives can be very difficult where students are struggling just to get food; therefore it is up to the schools to meet their educational needs and some personal needs as well.
My Project
Morning choice is an impactful morning routine that not only allows students to start the day off on a good note, but it also helps them end the day on a good note. Morning choice has been proven to decrease student tardies and decrease behavior problems throughout the school day.
Students are eager to come to the classroom every morning because they will not begin the first thirty minutes of their day doing a worksheet.
Students will be using the LEGO Bricks, wooden pattern blocks, and wooden building blocks to build with their peers. This will promote communication and problem solving that will wake up their brains for the day. Students will also participate in problem solving and communication with peers when playing the Maze Racers, Dr. Eureka, Battleship, Connect 4, Sorry, and Gravity Maze games. These games are a great way to wake up students brains in a fun and engaging start to the day. We also will need a place to store these games, which is why we are asking for a shelf and bins as well. This teaches the students to respect and organize our materials. Help my students engage their brains with morning choice.
