My Students

My school consists of a group of young adults who are immigrants, unaccompanied and homeless youth. Although I teach students who have various financial needs they are all motivated and driven to perform well academically and are active in their community. They enjoy challenging themselves in rigorous advanced placement, honors, and college dual enrollment courses. When they are not working hard in class, they are actively practicing to take an Advanced Placement (AP), ServSafe, and Adobe Illustrator exam which will allow them to obtain an industry certification in Culinary and Digital Design or college credits. These opportunities will allow my students to become competitive in the workforce and pursue their post-secondary goals.

My Project

This year class room theme is "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade". This theme will help foster a creative and inviting learning atmosphere. Many of my students come from a challenging background and are not always optimistic about what their future hold for them. My role is to engage them and mentor them while providing them with opportunities to be successful. In order to solidify my message, I have selected lemon themed decorations that will be used throughout the class. The decor would be used to house positive affirmations and key content information. The paper tree will be used to adorn the walls and provide students with the opportunity to write how they will use their lemons. For example: A student may write, " I will graduate high school and become a certified nail tech". Each decoration will be used to only give students the opportunity to come into a welcoming environment, they will also be provided the opportunity to have positive self reflections.
