2nd graders are a joy to teach because they love school and learning. They love their teacher like a 2nd mom and truly enjoy coming to school. For instance, they may become sad when it’s time for the weekend, or a vacation from school. They get attached to their teachers and friends. They crave learning too. My students always have questions and want to read or research to find the answers. Having books to bring home with them daily and even on weekends keeps them connected to school. Many times they will read their books to family members. As they finish their books, the teacher checks out more to them. The kids really like having ownership of the take home readers that they can read independently away from school without teacher support. The books are not only on their level, but also suits their reading interest.
My Project
These Sort & Store Book Tote reading book bags will help my students by allowing them to take their learning home with them. The book bags will keep their take-home readers, and reading logs in a safe place. The bags are durable and keep books safe on their transit from home to school. This allows kids to have access to reading materials at home.
Many of my students can't afford or just don't have access to books that they can read on their level at home.
For instance, when I ask a student why they haven't been reading or completing their reading log, they tell me they just don't have any books at home they can read. They will also say their parents won't take them to the library to check out books.
