Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a diverse group of motivated, empathetic and passionate scholars. As a school family, we provide all the resources and support to help our students reach grade level expectations by the end of each school year. By teaching them to work through the curriculum at their own pace, we set our scholars up for future success. We are a SummitLearning school, which encourages collaboration with others on projects as well as teaches the importance of independent work, to achieve personal goals. We provide personal devices for all students grades 3-8 and an extended school day, so there is time for mentorship and intervention. Through these initiatives, our students are equipped with the power to overcome any challenge and reach their personal goals.
My Project
As a Complex Text and Writing teacher, I am always looking for the "next best thing" that will grab (and hold) the attention of my students. When I started teaching, a long many years ago, I received a sample copy of the StoryWorks magazine from Scholastic. I was blown away by the interesting nonfiction narratives, literary text and grammar activities found within the colorful publication.
With our current push for rigorous text, that is also compelling, the Scholastic StoryWorks magazine would be an amazing addition to my classroom.
There are ample opportunities for students to engage in conversations around text, as well as material that will entice my kiddos to want to discover more! Please help us make this dream come true!
