My Students

My school is pleasingly diverse with students from many different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. My 4th grade students come to school each day eager to learn and ready to tackle any challenge the day brings. I enjoy learning about my students and developing relationships with each of them throughout the year.

My students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and happy learners.

Our classroom consists of various learning centers, which promote independent and student-driven learning. My students enjoy working together and learning through games. In our classroom, my students feel comfortable taking risks and know its okay to make mistakes. Our classroom is a positive working space where young minds can thrive.

My Project

Equity and diversity are extremely important to build in classroom culture. My goal this year is to bring more awareness to diversity, representation, and inclusion within our classroom. I can encourage and model this by having diverse literature that supports inclusion. Having diverse stories will allow my students to reflect on themselves and open their minds to the lives of all people.

As an educator, a responsibility of mine is to create an environment that encourages children to be themselves, feel accepted, and be mindful of others.

I want all of my students to feel comfortable in their skin and know they belong. Stories such as "Juana and Lucas" by Juana Medina and "The Someday Birds" by Joly Herman will help encourage inclusion in my classroom.

These pieces of literature have the power to inspire my students about themselves along with enlightening readers about lives that others live.
