Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I work with are very excited about learning and curious about the world around them (especially anything involving STEM). My students love educational technology, and it is one of my passions as an educator. Based in a small city in South Jersey, my public elementary school is a diverse community of learners. From many different cultural, socioeconomic, and language backgrounds, we share our many different experiences with each other. Our student population includes many high-needs learners, and over ninety percent of our student population qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch due to the families' low socioeconomic status.
Most of my classes throughout the day are inclusion classes, and it is great to see all of my students collaborating and having fun using technology together!
Despite the difficulties my students endure in and out of the classroom, they truly enjoy coming to school. It is great to see all of my students collaborating and having fun working together! The best way to do this is with technology and your help.
My Project
Help my students learn to make mosaic art with 1x1 Lego bricks.
A mosaic is a special form of art that uses small objects to create larger pictures and when these pieces are carefully placed with color and size, they can create awesome geometric designs or even beautiful pictures.
Mosaic art assists in the development of problem-solving, fine motor skills, hand and eye coordination – an extremely important step to help a child achieve difficult tasks easily. Mosaic art also assists in reading and writing, and math skills as the child learn about basic calculations, surface area, the best way to break down a larger area into smaller ones, shapes, spatial awareness.
