My students need new book titles for novel studies. They are so interested in realistic fiction, and I know they will love the book, Al Capone Does my Shirts! Stools will help with reading groups!
As a teacher in the lowest-income/highest poverty elementary school in my district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite this, they are innovative, bright and very engaged students who are eager to learn!
My students LOVE to be challenged!
Most of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. They are an amazing smart, hard working group of students with different personalities bringing a very diverse wealth of knowledge to the classroom. My students love doing projects, sharing ideas with each other. I am very proud of the hard work they put forth daily. Some of my students may struggle, due to lack of parental involvement and limited access to materials, but that still does not get in their way of learning.
My Project
My students will be using these books and stools in a novel study. They will be reading the text in groups or pairs and creating and answering questions as they go through the book. They will also be creating a book project when they complete the text.
These donations will help my students continue their love of reading!
Al Capone Does My Shirts is an entertaining story about school-aged children living on Alcatraz Island when it was a working prison.
Through this text, we will be able to not only enjoy a fabulous story written by a wonderful author, but we can also take a trip through history and study Alcatraz as we read.
