My students are an inspiring group of kids working to overcome tough cognitive and communication challenges. They are fortunate to be in a school that promotes inclusion. It is beautiful to watch the students interacting in inclusion settings.
Unfortunately, it can sometimes be difficult for some students to bridge the gap and interact with peers who are differently abled.
My dream is to increase disability awareness and acceptance among the general education classes through education and interactions with their peers with disabilities.
My Project
All of our students want to be accepted for who they are. Unfortunately, students with disabilities are often not included in activities due to a lack of understanding among their peers. I work with students with a variety of disabilities who all benefit from inclusion opportunities. These materials will work in 2 ways to increase inclusion opportunities for my students with disabilities. 1) The books will teach the other students in the school about disabilities. 2) The simple games are accessible across skill levels.
With these new games all of the students will be able to independently interact at playtime.
