Help me give my students Nat Geo Wild Animal Atlas Earth's Astonishing Animals and Where They Live and National Geographic Student World Atlases to understand what's what and where on Planet Earth!
Our school’s students have a wonderful curiosity that makes my job as the science teacher such a wonderful experience. With so many classes and only me to teach science, I need to find creative ways to bring engaging and instructional online science resources to all our teachers. Finding cultural bridges between science and the arts allows me to better differentiate my instruction and lessons for all my students.
Our Title I elementary school has a diverse population of students who all qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
My science classes are comprised of general education, English language learners and special education students from many different cultures, all with a variety of learning styles. They are exciting to watch in action and all love to try and discover. So many times I'm overwhelmed by their competence and determination to learn and achieve.
My Project
My elementary students many times haven't a clue about location and places on our planet. It's not uncommon to have children not know where they live and in what city their home is located in. Many students also come from other countries but they can't show me on a map or globe where that country is. It's time to get more atlases and teach them a bit of social studies.
I'm requesting copies of National Geographic Wild Animal Atlas - Earth's Astonishing Animals and Where They Live and National Geographic Student World Atlases.
These hardcover books will be used for our ecosystem unit as extension activities. The National Geographic animals will provide beautiful visual pictures for my English language learners as they see what animals are located in different counties and areas of the Earth. The supporting information is easy to read and understand. I think Google Earth is great but there is nothing better than looking at a picture rich world atlas. These books will be housed in our Science Library for all to use throughout the year.
I also need index cards, Baggies sandwich bags, and Scotch tape which will be used for different activities throughout this ecosystem unit. For example, we have Energy Chain pictures and vocabulary words. Students tape those on the index cards and use them for studying. Cards will be stored in the Baggies so nothing gets misplaced.
Thank you for your continued support of my science students!
