Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very visual learners. Whenever I introduce a new skill, strategy or concept they have to see it first hand. Often this means everyone gets up out of their seats and form a huddle around me at a spot in the classroom as I model or demonstrate the task and not all are able to see well.
I work in a school with incredible diversity both linguistically, culturally and economically.
About 75% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. They bring joy, curiosity and energy to our school each and every day. Often however they find the demands of our current standards to be very high and sometimes struggle to sustain motivation or find relevance in how what they're learning applies to their lives. My goal is to provide the necessary teaching, modeling and scaffolding to make my students feel confident when taking on new learning.
My Project
Students are more engaged when they see their own or other student work on the document camera. Of most importance I would use this document camera to allow better visual access to tasks, strategies that I am demonstrating before asking students to engage in the learning activity as well as have students demonstrate their work. I would love to have the ability to guide them in the text by putting the book directly up on the document camera. I would love to use the document camera to display student work for evaluation by the class as well as using the draw features to highlight, underline and write on documents that are displayed. Using student work, we would work together as a class to grade and improve student work.
Document cameras are a great tool for teachers.
They allow teachers to take what used to be individual assignments and turn them into class assignments, creating more discussion, interaction, and maintaining students' attention. The classroom document camera is an amazing tool that will allow my students to have a more dynamic and interactive classroom experience.
