What's True? Student Love to Learn Through Reading!
Help me give my students the ability to learn through the enjoyment of reading and the satisfaction of students reading books based on their reading levels.
My students are eager to learn, excited about being in school, and love to ask questions! The students love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow for them to push their brains/minds! These students come to school wanting passion, information, and place to feel safe to share their thoughts and ideas. I truly love being around my students, as they have taught me so much about new things, as well as myself and my teaching style!
Many of my students become discouraged when they go to their centers, especially the "Read to Self" or "Read to a Buddy" center because they have never been exposed to books or they cannot read yet.
Our school is 25 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. A lot of parents work multiple jobs and/or too busy to take their child to a library. Unfortunately, our school does not have a library. We just have a classroom library with books I have provided myself.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although some of the concepts are challenging for them. They never give up, no matter what. It would just warm my heart to know that they will never give up on reading.
My Project
Having leveled-readers in our classroom library will promote students to have the confidence to read and share their reading with others. My students love going to their "Read to Self" or "Read to a Buddy" center because they can escape to new places and have adventures that they may not be able to in the real-world. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With the leveled-readers, my students will be able to choose books, based on their current reading level, and not feel discouraged because the non-leveled-readers are not suited for them.
They will still be able to choose books that interest them. However, with not having a library in our school, my goal is to create a class sized library in our class, that allows for more focus on reading growth and confidence. This is encouraging students to keep reading, by using a variety books, to learn, share knowledge, and maybe become an author their selves and share their passion for reading with others!
