I teach English and Literature to students with special needs at the high school level. My students are working on earning a diploma, and many are planning for college. We have classroom dictionaries, however, we need additional supplemental materials to enhance our learning. My students need something to help support their developing vocabularies based on what they already know. Looking up a word in the dictionary provides them with a definition; however, when they look up the same word in a thesaurus they will find synonyms and antonyms that they are familiar with. A thesaurus will broaden their vocabularies in a way that has personal meaning to them beyond what is available with a dictionary. A set of basic thesauruses will help them better comprehend what they read and hear. Your contribution will help them build stronger vocabularies and improve their writing. They will soon be out in the world and need the right words to get there.
