Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I am a kid at hope. I am talented, smart, and capable of success. I have dreams for the future, and I will climb to reach those goals and dreams everyday." This is the pledge my students recite every morning at my school, with the ultimate goal of internalizing the words and believing them... with no exceptions!
It is a pleasure watching my students from various backgrounds and cultural experiences stretch their identities to include conservation efforts on our Green Team.
As Nelson Mandela so aptly stated, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
"I am a Treasure Hunter; as an adult and a Treasure Hunter, I am committed to search for all the talents, skills, and intelligence that exist in all children and youth." The staff at my school also recite a pledge every morning. Students on my campus have been gifted to us from a variety of backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and cultural experiences. Academic performance is a priority at my school; however, as an educator, I also get the privilege of establishing and maintaining positive, interactive, and hope-filled relationships with every student who walks through the gate.
My Project
In an effort to save our precious Earth, my school district decided to have every school create a Green Team. The Green Team at my school consists of various students across grade levels who are passionate about helping the community, reducing our energy usage, and doing what we can to protect Earth and her resources. One topic of high interest to my students on Green Team is the declining bee population and how that will impact agriculture and life as we know it.
The students need ceramic mugs, bamboo stakes, and twine in order to create "Bee Hotels" - or - areas where bees can nest in an attempt to save the declining population.
These resources would greatly impact my students' lives and learning at school by giving them an opportunity to feel that their ideas are supported, remind them that no matter how small they may feel, they can make a difference in the world, and allow them to feel as if they are participating members of the greater Global community.
