I have an incredible classroom filled with the beautiful hearts and minds of eager learners. Each day we try our best to make a day of learning and fun through engaging lessons and activities, and peer-to-peer learning. We are becoming mathematicians, readers, scientists, writers, and citizens of our community and the world, and we do our best each day to spread love and kindness to all.
Students come from different places before school and leave to many places after school.
No matter where they come from, or where they go, when they are with me, learning is our number one goal. Though my time with them is only bell-to-bell, I hope that my love and dedication to them extends past the school day, and they know how much they are loved and appreciated every time they think of me.
My Project
Let's start with the good news - thanks to the generosity of many "friends" of our classroom, my students now have 10 pre-loved iPads to use for their daily work. Students LOVE to work together on the iPads, and really enjoy working throughout the room (portable learning!). My students use the iPads for programs like Lexia Core Reading, and Dreambox, watch and listen to stories, and publish their writing. Ideally, I would love to eventually have enough iPads for each student, eliminating our paper footprint, and really preparing my learners for the 21st century and beyond. My students take pride in their iPads, are very careful with them, keep them charged, and understand and appreciate the new way of learning they bring to our classroom.
Now the bad news - we only have six pairs of headphones, with long cords, and broken headphone jacks on some of the iPads.
This makes lots of the material on the iPads unavailable to students - and at times renders them useless. One of my students actually was talking about headphones he wears in the car that have no cord - and the idea of Bluetooth headphones was born!
With the Bluetooth headphones, students can continue their learning around the room - with no worries of tangled cords, broken jacks, or unavailable materials. In addition, multiple headphones can link to a single iPad, making learning collaboratively a new option for our classroom. The headphones are comfortable, colorful, and rechargable, and students will want to use them, take care of them, and learn how to keep them charged.
Finally, some of our students have some sensory limitations, making learning hard for them with too much environmental noise. These noise-cancelling headphones will create a new, quiet environment making learning more achievable for all students.
