My second graders are representational of the diversity of our city.
They speak several languages including: English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Spanish, Korean and more.
Students also come from diverse family backgrounds. Some are from immigrant families while others are from working class and middle-class families. Despite their differences, one thing they all have in common is their love and appreciation for learning. This common denominator is why most families have chosen to attend our school, a school that has a proven history of academic success and rigor.
My Project
This project seeks to provide my students with a new whiteboard to replace our current aged, cracked, and brittle classroom whiteboard. When words, drawings, or numbers are written on our board, often times students complain about not being able to read through the layers of preceding writing/markings that just don't seem to ever be erasable. Students have even made the suggestion to cover our board with paper and to just write on that. A new whiteboard will allow my students the opportunity to learn and follow my instruction without being distracted by trying to see what was written on the board. Instead, they'll be able to quickly make sense of what I wrote without any problem.
