Help me give my students access to a new emotions rug. Social-emotional health is very important to teach my young students and this rug will help them to identify and label their emotions.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are so amazing! Most of them are English Language Learners and barely speak a few words of English, but it is so exciting to see how fast they learn the language and how proud they are when they can communicate their ideas in English. My school is next to a migrant farm workers, camp and across from a rescue mission. Many of my students reside at the mission and they have to go through so much change and at times, tragedy at such a young age. It just breaks your heart. Once they know school is a safe place for them; they tend to blossom.
I strive for my students to know that our classroom is a place where we can make mistakes, share laughter and friendship, learn and grow together through the experiences we share, and most of all know that we are all unique, special, and we ALL matter!
This year, our main focus of character development is kindness. My barely 5 year old students are becoming experts on kindness and demonstrating excellent problem solving skills!
My Project
This carpet will add so much to the social-emotional lessons that I teach my students. It is important that they learn to identify and label their emotions. The rug and the emotions cards will be an added benefit to my curriculum.
Social development and emotional health are also linked to children's academic success.
Many undesirable long-range consequences can be prevented if we start to focus on emotional health while our students are young.
The emotions cards will help create social-emotional task cards that the students will use to learn to label and identify what they are feeling. The markers will help me to create anchor charts with my students to give them access to journal writing.
