My students need the games Payday, Monopoly, and Life to practice financial literacy and number sense. They also need pencil pouches to store money from our classroom economy used to purchase prizes in our classroom.
My students are in 3rd- 5th grades in a self-contained setting for students with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities. Students with these disabilities need help with emotional regulation in a small class setting through social skills training to equip them with the skill set needed to mainstream back into a general education classroom.
My students are a diverse group of learners coming from different neighborhoods, cultures, and economic levels.
Students are brought in from an extended area for behavior intervention. All of my students are in need of social skills instruction and interventions before returning to the general education classroom.
My students are at-risk and that requires us to think out of the box to make them successful in the classroom. My students need accommodations and modifications to the traditional learning environment to show their success.
My Project
My students need fun and engaging ways to practice financial literacy. Financial literacy is a needed skill to understand banking, investing, saving, and strategy. What better way to become financially literate than playing interactive and cooperative games!
Monopoly, The Game of Life, and Payday are great ways to practice math skills and money management.
Our classroom uses a token economy system for real life experience with a financial literacy. Students earn "Manatee Money" for completing classroom and homework assignments with an expected work ethic. The manatee money can then be exchanged for items in our classroom store. We need pencil pouches to store the money they earn as they decide to save or spend.
Students earn "choice time" at the end of each day in our behavior support classroom to reward positive behaviors. I love to sneak in these learning opportunities such as financial literacy games that reinforce our learning concepts without the students even realizing they are practicing both curriculum learning and life skills!
