My students need to see in order to "get" what I am talking about. We would love a model of DNA and a DVD set on evolution.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If anyone explains to your what "ABC" looks like wouldn't you love to see it to get it? So would my students when I explain to them what DNA looks like or the evolutionary process. That's why we would love a DNA model and a DVD set on evolution.
Many of my students have backgrounds I personally cannot wish upon any child.
One day a girl came to class very excited and happy. She told me that she had been to see her dad. Thinking she spent the weekend with him, I asked where he was. She said that he is in jail. She continued to say that he was falsely accused and that she is looking forward to his release.
Many more students have similar stories to tell, yet the children are full of life and are hopeful for their future. When asked if they are going to college, almost all of their hands go up. When asked what they want for their future, they all say a better life.
As the saying goes, the most unhappy person is the one without hope; in that light, my students are the happiest people around. After all, although they may not have many things or even a solid family, they have hope; hope that will keep them looking forward to a better future that we help them build.
My Project
Many of the children these days are visual learners. They are bombarded with visual and multimedia such that even academical information needs to be presented in that format. Two dimensional pictures and worksheets are boring and DOA when presented to the children; especially abstract concepts such as what DNA looks like or what evolution is. Your generous donation of a model of DNA will bring the lesson to life as they see, touch, and feel it in their hands. When they see the base pairs with their eyes, they'll understand what I mean when I say Adenine and Thymine and Cytosine and Guanine fit together like puzzle pieces. They will not need to try so hard to understand what a double helix looks like when they see it in front of them. A model of DNA would clarify the basic structure in an instant. Likewise the concept of evolution is hard to believe without visually rich background information. One picture is better than a thousand words. One movie is better than ten lessons.
Education is competing with the fun and over-stimulating world for children's attention and interest.
The biggest challenge educators face today is clamoring for children's attention. Worksheets and lectures do not have a fighting chance. Your generous donations of a DNA model and evolution DVD will give education some ammunition in this battle of David against Goliath.
