I teach 12-18-year-old young adults with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments in our high school's Special Education Program. My students are focusing their time in school on preparing for life after high school; that looks different for every student. We work with each student individually to help them communicate what their personal goals and visions for their futures are.
My students are looking forward to being as independent as possible after high school.
All of my students are aware of various parts of the community as part of their education. We also practice interviewing skills, job applications, cooking, cleaning, money, time, and functional writing skills.
Most of my students are looking forward to moving out of their parents' home, working, and being involved in their community when they finish school. Others are looking to continue their education in a college or vocational/trade training program.
My Project
These materials will help my students become more aware of the world around them thus making them more independent when they graduate from high school. This is the ultimate goal for my students! My students love learning about the history of our country! This will also help them learn about the great leaders that came before them and made this country why it is today! By donating to my project you will help students with special needs become more knowledgeable about the world around them! My students love to read and write and by funding this project you can help them make their dreams come true!
