I teach at a very low-income rural area school. Because of limited funding, my students do not often have the appropriate resources they need to help with instruction. Many of our materials have been used for several years, and are not up to date.
My classroom is used for RTI (Response to Intervention) for students who struggle in Reading and Math.
I currently do not have high interest age appropriate reading materials to engage my middle school students this year.
We are requesting subscriptions to Time for Kids and Junior Scholastic magazines so that my students will be able to learn about current events, and how they relate to our small part of the world. These high-interest, low-level reading materials will help spark a love of reading, as well as teach about events in the news.
Our school is located in a small rural area of Northeast Tennessee, where big cities sometimes seem a world away.
Many of my students have never been out of the county, let alone to visit other cities. I want to help them understand the world we live in. Please help us!
