Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a Kindergarten teacher, inspiring a new group of approximately 27 students every year. I believe in developing young minds through imagination and discovery. My school is located in a neighborhood infested by high poverty, drugs and crime. In my classroom I try my best to create an environment where my students feel safe and are provided with opportunities that they might not be afforded at home.

In my classroom, I have noticed that Center time is the favorite time of the day. During center time students can hardly wait to get to the housekeeping center, but due to recent budget issues my classroom has not had any housekeeping furniture. I have tried my best every year to make a housekeeping area using extra desk, paper, old household items etc. I believe that it is time for my students to be able to finally use their imaginations using a child friendly housekeeping set. In the recent years, housekeeping has become less enjoyable without furniture. I am ready to provide my students with a "Good Looking" kitchen set.

We need housekeeping furniture to bring back the excitement to our Center time. As a child I can remember the joy playing in the housekeeping center at school brought me!! Can you? Dressing up, acting like mom or dad, and even practicing writing skills by making a pretend grocery list. Every Kindergarten student deserves this opportunity and I would love to offer my students the daily experience of learning through play.
