This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is in an urban area, and it is classified as a low-performing school due to attendance and low test scores. Our school is able to provide us with some items to create projects; however, resources are limited.

We are learning and growing in our Early Childhood Developmentally Delayed Classroom.

The students in my class have all been diagnosed with a disability. They range in age from 3 to 5. Although there are many activities we struggle with, we enjoy playing in centers as we increase our social skills.

My Project

We are seeking to add a kitchen to our dramatic play area. The students in my class are working to improve their communication skills and their knowledge of household items. They love to pretend to create meals for each other. We need a range of items to help stimulate imaginative play.

Pretend play is critical in the early childhood environment.

It is a very important component in the developmental learning process. It allows children to develop skills in such areas as abstract thinking, literacy, math and social studies, in a natural manner. The students enjoy working together to create meals, they learn to count while setting the table and they learn to positively interact with their peers.
