My Students

The first year of middle school is a huge change for kids. 6th grade is the first year for many students to truly figure out who they are and how they fit in with their peers.

Middle school is a time that many kids look to others to help them succeed.

They often rely of the advice of their friends, teachers, parents and coaches to guide them down a path of success. The inclusion of heroes in our life help to make these middle school years a bit easier to navigate.

My Project

My 6th graders are enthralled with the book, Because of Mr. Terupt, by Rob Buyea and really want to find out what happens to him in the next book in the series. They have been diligently reading the first book of the series every day in English class, and for many of them, this is the first time they've actually read an entire book by themselves. When we first began the book, one of my students looked at me like I was crazy and asked if I really expected her to read the whole book. Now she can't wait to find out what happens each day.

The next book in the series, Saving Mr. Terupt, leaves off where the first book ends. We are almost finished with book #1, and I'd love to continue their love of reading with book #2.
