Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade class is composed of 24 eager and bright young minds. Our school is a Title I/Bilingual program school where a large number of students qualify for free-reduced meals and speak another language other than English. Each comes from different ethnic and social backgrounds. My students live in a low socioeconomic area and are second language learners. All of my students live in apartment buildings and do not have a yard to play in. Sadly, my students informed me that most parents are afraid of letting their children outdoors to play (due to crime and deportation) so they are stuck in their home a majority of the time.
My students yearn for outdoor play!
They need equipment to help them get motivated and stay active!
My Project
My students live in a neighborhood that doesn't allow for much outdoor play. So the little outdoor physical activity my students get is here at school. The physical equipment I selected will help me motivate my students and get them moving! I will teach them how to make simple obstacle courses, play games, and hula hoop!
My ultimate goal is to instill in my students that outdoor play is so much more fun and exciting than their electronic devices!
My hope is that they will be begging their family to take them to the park or just find an open area and just get active!
