My Students

This is the first year in a classroom for most of my students! They are going on their third year of the pandemic, just like the rest of the world. But unlike the rest of the world, they have had very limited social interaction before Kindergarten. My Kindergarteners are trying to learn how to read on top of what to do with their emotions. They are the strongest 5-6-year-olds I know!

My Project

During my 7 years of teaching, this has been my hardest year yet - due to behavior. With two years of limited interaction due to COVID-19, my students struggle with expressing their emotions and wants appropriately. These products give students a chance to interact with each other, practicing social skills while learning new skills such as anger management! These resources are mostly games and visual cards to be able to connect, identify and challenge students to role-play different emotions, situations, and emotional behaviors. Each morning during the morning circle we learn a new emotion, talk about times we have experienced this emotion, and let our classmates know how we are feeling that day. I do this to normalize feeling upset, sad, anxious, angry, sensitive, excited, cranky, etc. and to show that we can support each other when we are not feeling like our best selves! These games will allow for more of an interactive morning circle, being able to play games and excite students about sharing our feelings and what we can do with our feelings. Right now, we only have a feelings chart that is projected onto the screen, allowing for a discussion around the feeling but not much else.

All of the games I am asking for will open conversations around hard topics, help children learn that it is okay to express our feelings, and give them examples of a healthy way to express emotions.

Games are a great way to get students excited about learning and give them the opportunity to practice social skills such as waiting their turn and being a good sport. These emotional and social skills can be used during their entire life, there is no better age to start educating social and emotional skills than Kindergarten.
