Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"What time is it?" It's a question I am asked at least twenty times a day. Although it is part of the South Carolina first grade math standards, telling time is a concept many students still struggle with on a daily basis. Both my assistant and I have pounded the rules on how to tell time in our students' heads again and again. However, since telling time is a foreign concept to them, these rules mean absolutely nothing. I have pulled a variety of resources including handouts with clocks where they have to tell time and even handouts where they have to draw the time on the clock themselves. We also use our class' large Judy clock to aide students in learning to tell time. Unfortunately, the handouts and Judy clock are not enough. The time boards I am requesting have both a digital clock where students can flip the numbers and a clock with movable hands, so students can set the time themselves. These clocks would be an excellent hands-on tool for students to use. Since each student would have their own board to work on, this would also be a wonderful tool for multi-level teaching, which is important for me in my diverse classroom. Every student would be able to work on their own level, so that each child could benefit.
