Help me give my students the musical experience that other students get to have! Stock an overflow music room with Xylophones, Hand Drums, Frog Rasps, Woodblocks, Rhythm Sticks, and for goodness sakes - Jingle Bells!
My K-2 students are super excited to come to music! They have been great learners even though the materials we need aren't always available. They are full of energy and ready to play music games and love it when there are treats involved. Sometimes they just need to have fun while they learn! They all have a story. Some are ELL, some are getting used to becoming a big sister or brother, and some just need attention because they aren't getting it at home. They are so amazing in that they want to learn and want to do their best and sometimes they just don't know how. They are children - they are students - what a privilege to be a part of their life! The students I teach are a part of over-flow classrooms. Our school gained 5 sections of students within the 3 years.
My Project
This year our district was faced with a new schedule and our specials teachers were faced with a new block schedule. However, what the district did not foresee was that at our school we were faced with having 3 general music teachers and music in three different rooms and a huge lack of materials. This has made it difficult to do a lot of musical activities with the students that have the 2 traveling music teachers. They have had to bring / borrow materials from their main schools over to this school to teach. Imagine carrying in a tub of drums or metallophones every time you had to teach.... that's what we do. The budget for our music classes has not changed in years but the enrollment keeps going up. We could really use your help! Please!
