Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are typical elementary school students who range in ages from preschool through 5th grade. Many students are from lower income households and qualify for reduced and free meals at school. The students have a genuine love for music and greatly enjoy participating in music class. They love to sing but unfortunately, we do not have a very good sound system in our music room. Presently, I am using a speaker from our school's cafeteria and am using a pa that has most inputs not working. Some days I have trouble even connecting my computer to the pa to provide the music for use in my music classroom. Students love to perform and do a winter performance and spring performance every year in which they can demonstrate their knowledge of materials learned and showcase their musical and acting talents. These materials would help immensely in their enjoyment of music in their personal lives.
My Project
This pa system will be used in my classroom everyday as a means to provide music sounds for my class. In addition to use in my classroom, the pa system is also portable and would also be able to be transported to the library for use in large performance practices and to the cafeteria for use in our actual performances.
The parents would actually be able to hear the students and not have to be subject to the sound going in and out during the performances.
We have a students with great skills and interests in the performing arts with this new PA system we hope to expand the interest and be able to hold more performances in the future.
Our parents are supportive but with such low income families we needs the support of the community in order to expand and continue to support the performing arts in our school. Educational funding is cut and music is not always in the high priority in getting equipment replaced.
