My Students
I teach in a small, cozy, neighborhood elementary school in Virginia. The children in my building are lively and great kids. They appreciate and evolve from positive but firm motivation and are very bright when focused and interested. We were named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006. Our school was recently renamed in June 2018.
I love teaching Pre-K through 1 children because kids at those ages are so enthusiastic and happy to learn.
I feed off of their enthusiasm, and it makes me want to provide them with more innovative learning experiences!
My Project
I know my kids are very young, and I am conscious about making sure I facilitate structure while still giving them PLENNNNNNNNTY of space for expressive creativity...
However, there are times when my kids hand in assignments and I have to call them back over to ask them what in the FOOL is written in their workbook or journal!
So it is time for some intense practice...
I am asking for Lakeshore Magic Boards and various phonics match boxes; I believe that rigorous practice in phonics, letter-sound correlation, and recognition of beginning/middle/ending sounds will assist with handwriting.
How? Because what is familiar and repeated becomes retained; seeing the same words they are writing helps my kids understand HOW to write letters properly!
