Help me give my students an opportunity to build their skills in determining unknown materials using their knowledge of physical properties.

I teach 11th graders in a non-selective public school located in an under served area of North Philadelphia. Our school focuses on teaching students content within meaningful and realistic settings.
Students learn skills that prepare them for college and careers by working collaboratively on meaningful and realistic projects and then have the opportunity to share their work with peers, families, and industry partners.
My students are desperate to understand why school is important or helpful to their lives. Prior to high school most of our students have had little to no exposure to different career fields. We work with each student to understand their specific passions and then encourage them to use their own power and agency to realize their dreams and give back to society.
These measurement devices and samples included in the Frey Scientific KIT PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS will be used to help student strengthen their lab skills and ability to design a scientific investigation.
As a project based school, the emphasis is for students to plan and execute their own project designs.
In this project students will act as project engineers tasked with identifying the identity of a shipment of materials that were received unmarked from a supplier.
Students must plan their own investigation using the scientific method and then test their plan by analyzing the physical properties of the materials and then comparing their values to required specifications for each material ordered.
Please consider contributing to this project, which is meant to reinforce project planning, laboratory and science skills.
