Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How many students (or adults ) know that Euclid was the Father of Geometry; or, that the Great Pyramid was designed without the benefit of sophisticated measuring devices? I would like for my students to research and create audio visual "infomercials" about famous past and present mathematicians.
My students are 7th graders.
They attend a middle school that is located in the central area of a large metropolis. The area is a mixed commercial/residential area. The school is located in a low socioeconomic area and the students do not get exposure to many extra-curricular activities, nor do they have many opportunities for self-expression.
My Project
My request is for an audio visual cart so that the students can create movies, PowerPoints, etc. of their learning activities. We have an LCD projector and a document camera; however, we do not have a cart where all of these resources can be integrated.
The specific project that we want to complete is an cross-curricular "infomercial" describing and illustrating the contributions of current and past mathematicians.
My students will learn, and be able to teach other students (and their families)the history behind the mathematics that we use in school. The "infomercial" can be shared with other math and social studies classes and with parents during "Back to School Night"
