My Students

The English language has so many words out there but, unfortunately, a 4th grader's vocabulary isn't that large. They stumble upon words in their reading and writing that they don't know but want to find out. I get asked numerous times "Can I use your dictionary?" YIKES! I don't have ONE!

I teach at a Title One school in South Carolina.

The majority of my school is free or reduced lunch. Vocabulary from home is very limited so it's my job to introduce my students to as many words as possible that will lead them to success. My students are like sponges. They soak in every bit of information and their hunger to learn inspires me each and every day.

My Project

These dictionaries will positively impact their reading, writing, and spelling instruction. Currently, I am unable to provide my students with dictionaries because I do not have any in my classroom. For my instruction to be successful, I need to be able to have these resources available for them to use upon request.

I need your help in gaining these dictionaries for my classroom.

Without these, my students are unable to look up unknown words in the dictionary and I am unable to help them with this skill. Not only will this impact the 50 students that I teach now but will impact my future students as well. Please consider investing in the lives and education of these 4th graders.
