Help me give my students ' classmate, who is very eager to learn, visually impaired but does not speak English a Rosetta Stone lifetime subscription so she can continuously learn the English language at school and at home.
My students are 9th-12th grade students from Richmond California. Their disabilities range from intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic disabilities and autism. Despite their prognosis, my students are excited to come to school everyday to learn, make friends and strive to become the best that they can be.
My students are striving to become more independent.
They are working towards developing life skills to foster their self-esteem and competence in performing activities for daily living.
Despite their physical and cognitive challenges, each student is given hands-on opportunities to build their comprehension and ability to employ compensatory strategies. Although they may have difficulty in understanding instructional requests, our instruction provides for regular review and repetition. We strive to provide interesting lessons that build on prior knowledge and student strengths in age-appropriate, functional training such as cooking and cleaning.
My Project
Thank you so much for funding my student's iPad. My student is just so eager to learn and really wants to be able to understand her classmates and everyone around her because she wants to have a lot of friends. She just recently came from El Salvador but even her verbal skills in Spanish are in the very low range for her age invalid as an indicator of conceptual ability. She has a history of extensive non-attendance and visual need. She is 14 years old and last attended school when she was 7. A Talk & Translate app will be installed in the iPad for her so she can communicate her wants and needs and understand when people are trying to talk to her. Right now because of the lack of para professionals in the district, she is often times left in the classroom with non-Spanish speaking adults and classmates. This can also present safety issues if she can't communicate her needs.
A Rosetta Stone lifetime access will enable her and her Mom to continuously learn English at school and at home.
She is just so excited to teach her Mom anything that she learns at school. As we all know our parents are our strongest partner and supporter for a seamless application for everything we teach our students.
I must admit that we also need all the help we can get to teach her the English language starting from the very basic. Please help us help her in this endeavor.
