My Students
We are a Title 1 school in a large Military Housing Community. 99% of our students are from Military Families. For the majority of their school career, our students have at least one parent who is deployed overseas and is not at home.
We also have the largest percentage of Special Education Students in San Diego.
Our school has severe, moderate, and mild special education students. It is a unique place where everyone is accepted for who they are and what they CAN do. My class is a mix of general education students 75% and special education students 25%.
My Project
My students need hands-on science activities to help reinforce our science curriculum. The dissection of an owl pellet is a fascinating activity for our students.
They will have the opportunity to dissect an owl pellet themselves.
They will have to practice patience, working slowing to uncover the bones in the owl pellet. This is a difficult skill for a second grader and one we have worked on all year. Then they will try to analyze the bones to see if they can discover which animal the owl ate.
This project will help them to see the circle of life and better understand the owl lifecycle.
