We have a small school in a small country town. My students have been raised in an area that values character, leadership, family, faith, and community. I have 27 awesome students in my culinary program that are determined, well behaved, and self disciplined.
This is our first year kicking off a full culinary arts program and with any new programs, we have a lot of gaps to fill.
Luckily, we were just accepted into the ProStart program, so getting my students up to speed is of great importance for them to be able to compete at a regional level for recognition and scholarships.
We are looking to build a career/technical program that will push them towards their goals in the hospitality and tourism industry and have them career ready right out of high school. We know that your contribution will make this opportunity and experience for these students a productive and successful one.
My Project
My culinary students have to research recipes, test them and standardize the recipe to meet the needs of any given event. We currently have no technology in our lab. This is due to the fact that the available technology (laptops) are cumbersome and easily damaged by fluids and other food based products, and take up entirely to much counter-top area in the lab.
Utilization of tablets will allow my students to have the tools that are relative to the current industry.
This being a Career Tech program, having the ability to look up resources in real-time without depending on calculators, and paper in the lab will allow my students to learn relative skills to the culinary profession, without waste of paper and damage to other devices. It will prepare them for what should be expected in future career endeavors.
