Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title 1 school in Pasadena, Texas. This school is 92% low income and 85% bilingual. My students have been through a lot with Hurricane Harvey, but they never complain. They show up ready to learn.
My students are growing and learning in a small, tight knit, school community that inspires me to be a better teacher.
These kiddos are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding entrepreneurs, teachers, business owners, and I hope one day world travelers. They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their long successful careers.
My Project
We would really benefit from these special pieces of furniture in our classroom.The children will be able to have the opportunity to choose a safe and comforting space to problem solve and share learning strategies. We have lots of old fashioned school chairs but would love to have flexible seating. This will be our first attempt to build flexible seating throughout the classroom. I am hoping to have many places for children to work and learn comfortably. I have some students in my class with particular needs. For example, I have carpet time for every subject and then we break into small groups. For some, sitting on the carpet isn't possible. A structure is needed for back support. How amazing it would be to have the back jack anywhere chair for my carpet time!
During our small group time the Hokki Stools that move seems like a logical way to keep my active students in their seats and yet allow movement that is safe.
The chair socks will make such a difference in the atmosphere of the classroom by allowing quiet movement of chairs.
