Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"What came first the chicken or the egg?" This age old question came up while I was teaching my students about different beak adaptations that birds have. My students are very inquisitive and are always asking questions. The bird unit in science has them on another level of questioning since we have two chickens at school!
The excitement of raising chicks from an egg is a very special experience that I hope my students will be able to have.
We are a Title I school, and all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of our students come from low-income families.
These supplies will help my students learn all about eggs, chickens and how to care for them. I hope that you will consider our project! Thank you.
My Project
My students would love to raise their own chicks from an egg! The learning experiences from raising chicks is endless. From the life cycle of chickens to habitats.
My students will be responsible for the care and wellness of the chickens when they become full grown.
The incubator will help me nteach the students about how long it takes for an egg to hatch. We will incorporate math with estimates of what time off day the eggs will hatch and also predict when the chicks will get feathers.
These chicks will become a fixture at our school teaching the students to care for and learn from them. Thank you for considering our project!
