Our sweet southern town is home to a small section of a rural school district with 4,400 students total. The town is committed to the education of their children and is very involved in the school community. The majority of students in our school district come from low-income households; the average income in our district is $19,000 a year. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily.
My students come to school with a wide array of backgrounds and experiences, and they are loving and eager to learn.
However, many of our students come to school without basic classroom supplies and budgets for materials are limited.
The items that are included in the cart, are the necessities for students during an academic year. Students are consistently tested over material that has been covered throughout a given 9 weeks. Most students find that having privacy helps them to focus while being assessed. The privacy boards will grant them the focus space that is needed without distraction from surroundings.
The privacy boards will also give the students the chance to sit in peace from other peers and read a book to build comprehension & vocabulary skills.
The books that have been requested are books that will review over content that have/will be taught during the school term, and are of great interest to the students. For every unit that is covered in science & math students are given a project that. Students are to demonstrate their understanding of the material of a unit my creating a visual . At the conclusion of the projects students enjoy keeping their projects for display around the school to allow fellow peers and other staff see what they have learned. The laminating sheets will allow for the students work to be kept from destruction and kept for years to come.
In closing, as we prepare for this upcoming flu season is it vital that the students have the necessary items to keep germs away as much as possible. The sanitize, tissue and Clorox wipes are valuable resources that will allow for the students to prevent those harmful bacteria's from spreading around throughout the school.
