My Students

Our middle school is a diverse high-needs school of about 1,400 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Almost 50% qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Many of our students receive services, including ESL (English as a Second Language), special education, and academic intervention. My technology classes support students of all ability levels to help them think critically, solve problems, and apply design thinking principles to hands-on learning. Students learn how to apply what they learn in content area classes to real-life situations.

My Project

Botley robots are a wonderful way to introduce students to the world of robotics. They are perfect to use with special education students and English language learners. With Botley robots my students can develop computational thinking skills without computers. These skills include critical thinking, problem solving, sequencing, and logic. A small group of students will develop collaboration skills when they work together to navigate Botley through mazes and stunts. Our students must develop these skills not only to prepare for college and careers, but also life. With your support our students will be able to program Botley to follow up to 120 commands!
