Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fabulous first graders are eager learners. Unfortunately, many of them have already experienced difficult transitions in their lives: some are refugees from war and violence, some have experienced numerous moves and are currently living in support shelters for families in transition, some are coping from multiple adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
I am trying to create and maintain a learning space that is safe, structured, and happy.
Our class routinely practices strategies to reduce anxiety, increase focus, and apply positive interaction skills. Along with foundational language, reading, and math acquisition, I also make opportunities for my super scholars to explore the wonders of science, solve engineering puzzles, and produce artistic expressions. Please help me support the learning experiences of these sweet children by funding our project.
My Project
First graders are very curious concerning the world around them. They love to build, create, and find solutions to real problems. Our classroom has a long counter running along one wall that would be an excellent place to conduct experiments and make observations. Adjustable swivel stools are needed to transform our counter into an exploration station. By funding this project, we will be able to grow an indoor garden, build various marble tracks to study force and motion, and use magnifying glasses and clipboards for observation and recording.
Science and STEM activities provide opportunities for students to explore, discover, create, and problem solve in an active manner.
