They come into the room with such an energy that, if I could harness it, would fulfill all the caffeine needs in the world.
They love to sing, dance, and play games through music and always have a creative idea to share with everyone.
Some of my favorite moments are when they come in and say, "Miss Feige! I sang the song for my Mom last night. And then I sang it for my Dad! And then I called all of my aunts and uncles and sang it for them, too!"
My Project
Right now, my classroom has a few Orff instruments that students take turns using to make music while we sing and dance to common folk songs. However, the number of instruments limits us in some of the activities we can do and makes composition projects in the upper elementary grade levels nearly impossible to do.
Music is all about experiential learning and these xylophones will help ensure that students have more experiences making music as a classroom community.
Currently, when they are waiting for the next instrument to be available, they are involved in the lesson by singing, but sometimes find themselves distracted and lose engagement which makes the experience of singing and playing together less powerful.
With the addition of these Orff xylophones, Monforton will be a little bit closer to having enough instruments to allow every student to play in every lesson!
