Students in my class are unfailingly kind. I have never seen a more positively caring group! They love helping others and making sure everyone has a great day at school. It is a regular sight to see students giving each other compliments and “Shout Outs,” filling our Acts of Kindness jar with marbles, and being a good friend to those around the school as a part of Hope Squad, a school-wide club dedicated to spreading kindness.
“I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.” -R.J Palacio, "Wonder."
Because of their unwavering positivity and courage to always choose kindness, each of my students deserves a standing ovation for the work that they do each day in making the world a better place. They are truly inspiring.
My Project
Our class participates in a daily class-wide book club. We spend the first 10 - 15 minutes of school discussing our reading from the night before. I use this method to promote a healthy love of reading as they develop strong habits of consistently reading books of their choice on their own time. The most wonderful conversations come alive as students excitedly share the worlds that they escape to through their literacy adventures!
This year, I would like to provide my students with a strong literary example as their love of reading grows.
I would like to introduce them to the book "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio. This book would be a WONDERful addition to our book club, as its themes showcase values that my students are passionate about and have personal connections with. The goal of this project is collect a classroom set of books, 25 copies, so that each student can hold this amazing book in their hands while I read aloud.
