Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth grade science class is a place where students explore science concepts through hands-on and technology. Students have spent this year researching and using google slides to extend their learning of our science concepts. Many of our science programs are also technology based in which students log in and have more practice, which is a key component in our school.
My class of fifth graders is mainly composed of at-risk, bilingual, economically disadvantaged, Title I, and LEP students.
I have seen that the use of our chromebooks has helped many of our students acquire and practice the necessary academic vocabulary essential for their success in Reading, Math, and Science.
My Project
Every year our students have access to a Chromebook. These Chromebooks help our students practice their math, reading and science concepts taught in class through specific programs our school has in place. It has been one essential component in our school since many of our students do not own a laptop, Chromebook, tablet or desktop computer and many do not have internet at home.
By repairing our Chromebooks' screens, students will not have to wait, share, or borrow from another class.
Students feel acknowledged and trusted by having access to technology that they can use by themselves and in return are more focused on their learning.
