My Students

My students are amazing. They love to laugh, create and learn. Their willingness to play with the language and stretch their Spanish abilities is truly astounding. They have a great desire to learn about the world and other cultures.

They will be so excited to see that they can read more than just a paragraph or two, but an entire book in Spanish.

I would like to be able to help them through the process of reading a novel, checking their understanding of the text and also personalizing it with them.

My Project

I am so excited for my students to read a short novel in Spanish. Reading books is such a great way for them to learn new vocabulary. When students are reading they are likely to get exposed to the same word multiple times, thus reinforcing that word and remembering it much better. This is particularly important because studies suggest that people need to encounter a word many times to learn it.

Reading not only helps learn and reinforce new words but also helps students learn words in context.

Words can have a different meaning in different situations. Reading in context helps students understand those differences.
