This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is in a low-income neighborhood. The majority of my students are on free or reduced price lunch and their parents have just enough to provide for their students. The students are energetic to learn and thrive in a classroom that is full of stimulating things to keep them focused on their educations. The students are eager to gain knowledge to become better readers and writers, and we want them to become college and career ready. I hope that you will help support our students in this journey!
My Project
Students need to use a variety of materials to learn literature standards taught during the school year. Students also need to be exposed to longer books in order to build reading stamina for upcoming assessments and testing that takes place during their school year. These chapter books will make a difference by adding to their reading library and have them make connections to characters and situations.
The students need these novel sets to help build reading comprehension and fluency.
The novels will expose them to books outside of their comfort range and help make them more comfortable to choosing more chapter books. There are a variety of books that the students need to be exposed to to help build their phonics and understanding of stories. These books will also help them with learning how to express what they have learned by writing responses about these novels.
