Mrs. Barborinas from Mount Vernon WA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

What a Novel Idea! Teaching Reading Through Novel Sets!

My students need reading materials that are appropriate for the grade and that represent a variety of genres. These books teach reading through novels that reading passages alone cannot do so students can connect with our learning.

My Students

I teach 3rd grade to 30 students at a school wide Title 1 school in a town that is a tight knit community.

Students come excited to learn and ready to be engaged but there are some needs in the classroom to make sure my students can fully thrive!

They are eager to learn and I am eager to teach!

I need help funding the things that I need to close the achievement gap so that my students will be ready for the steep learning curve of 3rd grade.

My Project

Books can do with learning what reading passages can't. As such we are learning the art of savoring a good book to ignite the love of reading and learning comprehension strategies and vocabulary along the way!

With this book project we will cover several themes of social justice.

Right vs. Wrong by reading War with Grandpa, Good vs. Evil by reading Poppy, and Just vs. Unjust by Reading Glory Be.

While all these themes connect and overlap, they are also different genres (Fantasy, Realistic Fiction and Historical Fiction) with intent to pique the interest of students by connecting to other styles of reading and interest in other book series and authors.
