My students need this owl pellet set to learn, through a hands-on science investigation, about food chains and food webs, and the dependency on these for survival.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you get so excited about science that you want to jump up and down? My students do! Just at the mention of the subject. Shouldn't they get to do more than read about it???
The majority of my students are English language learners (Spanish speaking).
They are eager to learn and have expressed a great interest in anything "science", especially life sciences (which is our first unit). They attend a Title I school in a program improvement district in CA, which means that daily instruction focuses primarily on language arts and math only. It is clear to me that their past experiences/ exposures to science and social studies may have been less than ideal because of the Language Arts and Math push.
My Project
With your donation, we will be able to change my students lives by providing an opportunity to learn about science outside of a textbook. We will utilize non-fiction books on owls and watch the barn owl video that accompanies the kit. Students will learn how to conduct a science investigation using the scientific method. Students will focus on applying their knowledge of food chains and food webs during the owl pellet dissection. They will practice working with a science partner to conduct the investigation, make inferences and chart their results. Finally, they will draw conclusions and organize their findings on a poster to present to the class. We will display our posters on our classroom bulletin board to share with families just in time for our fall celebration.
Please help my students see the importance of owls and other animals in our ecosystems by receiving the opportunity to dissect an owl pellet.
