I am the Visual Arts teacher and I get to teach the majority of students at my school. We have a large enrollment of students who can not afford the luxury of art books. Some of my students are new to our country and have difficulty with the language. Even with all these handicaps, my students have proved successful within the Art field. They have had Art work published in a national magazine, on a Saturn car and have won numerous awards. My students have had their Artwork displayed on NC Wildlife Calendar and Art work displayed a a local craft museum. I just can't brag about them enough!
My students parents have difficulty providing housing and buying food for their children, much less buying Art books. Sometimes their eyes are closed to the amazing world of Art, because of the different obstacles that they face in life. I would like to open my students eyes to this joy and maybe in turn they will enlighten their own children to the arts.
When students come to my Art class, I work hard at trying to provide everything that they might need to be successful, supplies, art reading materials, encouragement, and emotional support. Having easy to read, comical ART books on famous artist will allow them to spread their wings and learn more about past and present artists and their particular styles.
The Mike Venezia series will help to integrate reading within my art classes and teach my students about different artist, their lives and styles of working in Art.
