My Students

Can you imagine attending a school where books are shared among 4 students? Our students would love to have their very own copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to read for our final project of the year.

We are a Title 1 school in Indiana.

To give you an idea of the poverty, 98% of our students receive free lunch. Most of the students do not have access to books in their homes. Our school has recently become an English as a Second Language program. These students have very limited access to books outside of school.

My Project

This book will be the center of a theme-based, cross curricular project. The students will read the story, will use this text as a model for author study, will create their own new candy. We are also tie this into our Health and Nutrition text, and our Social Studies as we read about where each of these lucky ticket holders are coming from.

Our children are disadvantaged, but have voraciously read through everything we have in our book room.

They would eagerly devour something new. We hope this will inspire them to read more by this author.
