Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, a number of whom are English language learners, many with physical and mental health needs, and many living below the poverty line. My students face challenges daily that make it difficult to get to school, including lack of transportation, access to clean uniforms, and caring for younger siblings. All children at my school receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch daily. Despite many of the challenges they face, my students come to school filled with energy, curiosity, and the desire to succeed.
My students are resilient strong leaders looking for opportunities to express themselves and have their voices heard.
Many of my students do not have access to supplies or technology at home as a result of financial strain so I strive to provide my students fun and unique learning opportunities that emphasize STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) collaboration, and creativity.
My Project
My students need a white board table, dry erase markers, and cleaner to create a small group instruction learning center. In my classroom, we currently have old tables that are wobbly and only seat two students per table. With the addition of this dry erase table, we will be able to create a student centered area where they will receive individualized instruction.
Many of my students are English language learners and students with learning disabilities who require differentiated learning plans.
A small group work area will allow me to work with several students at once and would allow students to practice work without the need of additional instructional materials like pencils and paper. Students will be able to write directly on the table and focus on the skill being taught. The table will create a better space to maximize instructional time by already having the open space needed to show work.
